Ribolla Gialla is Friuli’s indigenous grape par excellence, a white grape with piercing acidity, that seems to concentrate all of the plant’s energy into a lean, powerful wine that is built to age. In the Radikon fashion, this was fermented on skins for four months and aged in old casks for four years. Dried apricots mix with nuances of mint and autumnal spice this opens in the glass, and notes of sun teas and white peach cascade over a core of salty minerals. Hints of sour melon and citrus add further tension through the long, gently tannic finish. The balance here is fabulous, but the 2020 would love some more time to mellow.
