The heel of Italy's boot is best known for Primitivo, which many drinkers have learned is genetically identical to California's Zinfandel.  This makes it a great region to explore for people looking to branch out from our local wines.  Negroamaro has made a name for itself as well, but it is the more elusive Uva di Troia that is the region's sleeping star as far as quality goes, particularly when grown in the area around Castel del Monte.
