Radikon may be synonymous with orange wines, but the reds are just as profound. The 2007 Merlot – which saw fermentation on skins for 30-35, followed by five years in neutral barriques, and is the current release – has layers of flowery underbrush, flint, rosemary and crushed wild berries forming its bouquet. Silky lashings of red fruit, medicinal herbs, and mineral tones, with hits of spice and aniseed follow on the palate. Fine-grained tannins create an almost-chalky sensation as nuances of steeped plum and a bitter twang of cocoa slowly close it out. Seriously contemplative stuff.
