Named for the road, la strada provincale, near her vineyard in Vittoria, the SP68 Rosso is a blend of 70% Frappato and 30% Nero d’Avola — Arianna’s twist on the typical Vittoria Cerasuolo. The 2023 is supremely fresh and fragrant, full of pretty florals like crushed roses and violets, wild cherries, blackberries, and cranberry with just the right refreshing raspberry lift. Hints of wet stones, smoke, spice, Mediterranean herbs and freshly turned earth lend the complementary savory edge. All are bolstered by bright acidity, a tart citrus streak, firm tannins, and a fun, tangy finish. You could serve slightly chilled, no problem, but there’s enough dark and earth-bound complexity to stand up to a good arrostito as well.
