The 2025 Fior di Bianco is a particularly bright, energetic release from Nino, with a little less weight and an even stronger saline streak than we’ve come to expect it. The blend is 45% Grillo, 35% Catarratto, 15% Grecanico, and 5% Zibibbo, drawn from young vines planted across three hectares around Marsala. The grapes see just a day on their skins before spontaneous fermentation, preserving the freshness and perfume that distinguish this from Nino’s more structured whites. At just 12% alcohol, the 2025 feels wonderfully brisk and unencumbered. The nose is immediately expressive, with lemon peel, green apple, pear, orange blossom, fresh fennel, and wild herbs, while the small amount of Zibibbo adds a lovely high-toned floral note without making the wine overtly aromatic. On the palate, juicy citrus and orchard fruit give way quickly to sea salt, brine, wet stone, and a faint iodine character. There is enough texture through the middle to keep it from feeling slight, but freshness is really the story here. The finish is long, clean, and mouthwatering, with citrus, almond, and salt lingering behind. An exuberant, wonderfully easy-drinking wine, and a terrific introduction to the distinctly maritime character of the Barraco wines.
