Mario's aim here was to craft a red wine consistent with the character of Ribolla Gialla (Schioppettino is also known as Ribolla Nera); perfectly in the style of i Clivi then, this red therefore plays on acidity, salinity, moderate alcohol (12.5%), with a seducing strawberry color and a touch of spicy, peppery notes under the nose. From 50-year-old vines, the 2020 is just Mario’s second Schioppettino vintage; spontaneously fermented in stainless steel, with 14 days of maceration, then aged in stainless also for 12 months. Rosebuds, wild strawberries, and light clove abound, with hints of musky undergrowth. A juicy, peppery, woodsy and wickedly fresh Friulian red keeps the tension high with acidity and wild berry fruits.
