Guido’s 2020 Fiano di Avellino is the latest rendition of the wine that started it all for him and continues to be the property’s main focus, produced entirely with fruit from his own estate vines in Summonte, directly adjacent to the winery facility. Fermented and raised in steel tanks for 12 months and then laid down for a further 18 months in bottle before release, the 2019 has emerged a glorious Fiano butterfly, combining heady florals, flinty mineral punch, and oily richness to make for one hell of a glass of wine. Honeydew melon, kumquat, Anjou pear, mango lassi, cultured butter, and acacia flower dominate a nose pocked with sweet spices and fresh-ground nutmeg. A core of flinty gunsmoke emerges across an expansive and oily palate, with more angular elements of Meyer lemon and Granny Smith apple bringing a chiseled element this otherwise medium-to-full bodied Campanian white. You’ll have no issues sticking this one in the cellar for a few more years if you choose!
