The 2020 Rosso Munjebel CD is the wild child of Cornelissen’s lineup this year. A zesty bouquet of blood orange, cloves, dried roses, cedar shavings and black cherries is invigorated by hints of grapefruit zest. Lifted and pure, the CD sweeps across the palate with textures of pure silk as its tart wild berry fruits are motivated by brisk acidity. An array of sweet spices swirls throughout as the 2020 tapers off energetic and wildly fresh, leaving a gentle tinge of fine tannins on the finish. The 2020s are aromatically stunning, placing fruit front and center, yet they are crunchy and precise, with vibrant acidity that gets the mouth watering halfway through the experience. Tasting these wines reaffirms Cornelissen’s commitment to allowing each vineyard and vintage to speak clearly through his wines.
From Frank: Since the day we started producing wines back in 2001 the grapes from this contrada were always a bit more expensive than other areas and the reputation has always been high. In cold and difficult vintages the structure of the soil with many smaller rocks, can give an advantage in absorbing warmth and radiating this during the colder evening hours. The wines are generally more feminine combining elegance and in the best cases the wines are profound.
