Giovanna’s La Morra bottling offers the baseline insight into her family’s Barolo wine terroirs. Crafted with more of a ‘drink a little sooner than later’ sense of immediacy and openness in mind, the La Morra bottling draws from a number of sites - some younger, some older, some higher, some lower - throughout the eponymous subzone (La Morra is known to be more elegant among the main Barolo communes because of its greater sand composition in addition to some of the higher altitude sites) It’s the range’s charismatic leader and Giovanna expresses a lot of passion for its place in their portfolio, saying, “The La Morra Barolo is our love-declaration to the village of La Morra! It’s the expression of the elegance, finesse, aromatics, and complexity that La Morra has to offer.” Raised in large Salvonian botti for 2 years, followed by an additional 6-8 months in bottle, the La Morra doles out cocoa-dusted cherries, dried summer herbs, light spices and crushed flowers. The savory, concentrated palate is driven by ripe black cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and baking spice accompanied by fine-grained velvety tannins.
