Odilio has forever been a strong believer in the ‘choir’ of additional varieties traditional to Alto Piemonte’s Nebbiolo-based wines; heavy doses of Croatina and Vespolina here lend noticeable purity and concentration, though its lithe frame and firmer angles speak clearly of the wine’s sub-alpine, higher elevation heritage. Spending 36 months in oak, it shows less primary fruit and more darker black cherry liqueur and earth-driven spice. Licorice notes, powdered violet, bergamot, whole black peppercorns, and an almost peaty-like character stand front and center. aromatically. English rose, brooding red berries, just a hint of herbs and then concentrated cherry fruit with marzipan-like tannins add great grip to the finish. A stunning example of northern Alto Piedmont.
