Dolcetto, as the Piemontese will often tell you, is the wine of the region's peasant tradition, the quintessetinal table wine. Giovanni and Mattia see it as a wine from the past, increasingly difficult to find in its authentic form, much like the partridges they occasionally glimpse in their Roddino vineyard – now on the label. After a manual harvest, the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and fermented with native yeasts, and aging takes place for 8 months in concrete barrels before bottling. There's an uncommon seriousness to this wine, while still upholding Dolcetto's spirited and refreshing personality. Lush with black cherries, plums, violets, anise, tobacco leaf and white peppercorn, brilliant acidity carries waves of brambly blackberries and herbs to a spicy, earthy finish. Absolutely jam-packed with flavor, it's all buttressed by smooth, polished tannins. If you love Cru Beaujolais, this is the Dolcetto for you.
