Arianna's new white wine is 100% Grillo and comes from a vineyard 490 meters above sea level, surrounded by pine forests, oaks and centuries-old olive trees. Take a wild yet alluring bouquet – like a spiced, citrus-inspired, herbal tea more than a wine – then mix in some smoke, a hint of underbrush and voilà. It’s soft-textured and savory to the core, with flinty young peach motivated by brisk acids and hints of sour lemon. Leaves a staining of minerality, along with notes of ginger and tangerine, while tapering off with impressive length and concentration. This is the first vintage of the SM with a strikeout on the label, as Occhipinti can not legally add the Contrada name “Santa Margherita” to the label. A must for any richly textured wine white lover, and sure to quickly join the pantheon of world-class Italian whites.
