One of Piemonte's now almost-forgotten workhorses, the Mascarello's Langhe Freisa hails from just half a hectare of vines in Castiglione Falletto, not far from Monprivato. A varietal known for its angularity and reticence when young, the most recent release of the Toetto is invariably in the early stages of its development while still offering intriguing varietal purity already. A nose of lazer-focused strawberry is nicely framed by spicy mineral nuances and zippy, citrus-like acidity - all of which speak of a long, healthy life ahead. Only 425 cases produced.
