Chardonnay is a rarity in Abruzzo and these are some of the oldest Chard vines in Italy, brought back from France by current-generation Eloisa De Fermo's great-uncle and planted in 1926. Aged for 9-12 months in tonneaux. Stuns with a bouquet of crushed almonds, pear skins, brioche, and pretty florals. Silky in texture, it’s nicely balanced by brisk acids and spiced citrus, before giving way to loads of ripe orchard fruits. Hints of ginger, green apple, and savory herbs linger as this tapers off, lightly structured yet mineral-driven and resoundingly fresh. A simply stunning take on Chardonnay that should probably be your new go-to for shellfish.
