There's a new player on the Cal-Ital scene, though led by some vary familiar faces...Anyone paying attention to Italian wine in California the past decade should know the wines of Idlewild, a winery dedicated to Piemontese varieties grafted and grown regeneratively here, in the hills of Mendocino. Idlewild founder Sam Bilbro’s Italophile cadre has grown over the years to encompass David Drummond and Thomas DeBiase, partners in winemaking and low-intervention vino evangelizing, and, now, in Comunità wines. Nestled within the esteemed Las Cimas Vineyard in the Russian River Valley and spearheaded by David and his own journey with wine, Comunità pays homage to its namesake, meaning 'community' in Italian, symbolizing its dedication to fostering and expanding the vibrant wine community in California. Comunità’s inaugural release includes a line-up of wines inspired by the amazing wines of Northeast Italy, specifically Alto Adige and Friuli. These wines preserve the varietal characteristics of their Italian cousins, infused with California sunshine, while also pushing past the traditional boundaries of what’s possible in California winemaking. The team farms using organic and regenerative practices and uses minimal intervention to create wines that honor the landscape and personality of each unique variety. We are stoked and really quite honored to host the Cominutà crew for a holiday release party – after all, the first drop of wines only hit the market this fall! 6 wines.
