Marcco’s ‘Pipirii’ Bianco is derived from the classic Tuscan strain of Trebbiano - Trebbiano Toscano - a good chunk of it hailing from some of the oldest Trebbiano vines in all of the state, some of them reportedly more than 100 years old. Though the basis for the ‘Pipirii’ all comes from direct pressings of the Trebbiano bunches, with no skin contact or barrel aging, the natural richness and deeply golden hues of the variety don’t fail to shine through. Plush yellow orchard fruits, spicy and aromatic herbs, a slight hint of barley malt, and something that speaks of saffron, and salt, and eastern spice are buried deep within. While altogether approachable and easy, there is some welcome depth to the Pipirii—a somewhat hearty summer slugger if there ever was one—balanced by a lightly honeyed, zippy mouthful of lemon peel, salt spray, and Sourpatch candy.
