Hailing from a high-elevation parcel of sandy, limestone-riddled soils planted 60+ years ago, the 100% Nero D’Avola ‘Ischac’ is a Sicilian red that is pure-fruited, savory, and packed with tension. Adhering to Marco’s strict non-interventionist winemaking, fermentation is by native yeasts and done in and concrete vats, afterwhich the wine is aged for one year in large, untoasted oak barrels, before another 6 months in bottle. Rich in aromas of small red berries, black cherries and plums, wild herbs, and violets, with warmly integrated fine-grained, rounded tannins, a great balance of riper dark fruit with plenty of structure to support it, and an earthen tone that just feels Sicilian. Unfiltered and expressive, Ishac showcases remarkable concentration, balanced acidity, crystal-clear varietal character, and low alcohol –– hallmarks of all of Marco’s wines.
