The Rosso de Veo ('Veo' being the way the family’s name is pronounced in old Umbrian dialect), is a selection of the Bea estate’s younger Sagrantino vines, principally from the 'Cerrete' vineyard which graces the highest point in Montefalco, between 1300 and 1500 feet above sea level. Since the 2005 vintage, it's pure Sagrantino, vinified in a similar fashion to the single vineyard bottlings with a long cuvaison of forty to fifty days, and a total of 4 years of elevage before release. The 2018 vintage presents a classic take on this bottling, with a modest-for-Montefalco 14% alcohol and a 45-day maceration; it shows a signature wildness but without veering into hyper-intensity, and it balances mouth-filling richness and tangy acidity. With an aromatic mix of spiced citrus, roses, cloves, hints of cocoa and, finally, medicinal black cherries, there's an abundance of energy and vibrant ripe red fruits that wash across the palate with ease. Finishing only lightly structured and lively, the mouth waters under an air of red inner florals, and an underpinning of chalky minerals slowly fades
