Mario’s Vermentino is made from 80-90 year old vines which grow in predominantly clay and sandstone soils on Sardinia’s Northwest side. Sorso, which coincidentally also means “to sip,” is a region in Sardinia where mountain and sea co-exist, adding depth and complexity to the Bagella lineup. The hill that the vineyard sits on creates a natural amphitheater that captures the ocean breezes, keeping the grapes from over ripening in the hot coastal sun. The wine sees spontaneous fermentation and a 12 hour skin contact in stainless steel tanks. It then is aged for 8-12 months, also in stainless. This classic, textural and elegant bianco has fresh minerality with notes of green apple, grapefruit, and lime. It pairs perfectly with light seafood dishes or roasted veggies.
