A blend of Nebbiolo and Freisa, vinified exactly the same as Gianliugi's Barbaresco, this weeknight wonder boasts a harmony of ripe raspberries, cherry and plum fruit and wafts of violets. It’s plush exuberance tempered only by subtle aromas of earth, char and dried leaves. Fresh acidity and a framework of savory tannins means this is destined for the dinner table.
Gianluigi Lano is an understated, stoic man who works a small certified organic farmstead in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, Barbaresco. His wines are complex and classically styled, but always offer plenty of truffle/floral intrigue to compliment the instantly gratifying dark fruit. There is no modern technology in the cellar. The most impactful "technique" is that Gianluigi refuses to release wines until they're truly ready to drink. If that means the Barbera needs 4 years in barrel/bottle or the Barbararesco needs 5 or 6, so be it. Each wine leaves the cellar when it is ready, and no sooner.
