100% Ormesasco, the local moniker for Dolcetto, from well above 550 meters asl. An elegant and racy little wine that speaks of its genealogical heritage (Dolcetto’s classic red currant drive) but also of its closer proximity to the Mediterranean (a little more salinity, a touch more fruit ripeness). Intense on the nose, it is well-balanced between ripe red fruit, sweet spices, and fresh floral, herbaceous and Mediterranean scrub notes. Bracing acidity and mineral tension lend a welcome degree of refreshment and tarty zing sometimes missing in its sappier, northern counterparts; subtle notes of myrtle, plum, cinnamon, dried cherry, light cloves, and baked stone fruit make this wine easy to drink but with loads to discover. Overall, freshness prevails, speaking of vines soaked in sunshine and cooled by the mountain air.
