David's parents – a career military officer and pilot and a homemaker who raised six kids then went back to finish college and taught in local public schools for 20 years – were addicted to reading. Stacks of books teetered at their bedside, and books were in line of sight from every room in the house. In the late '60's, this addiction even led them to start a bookstore, Drummond's The Poor Scholar Books, on Alvarado Street, the main drag in downtown Monterey. His parents' curiosity and passion for learning is the inspiration for this wine, a Schiava based blend with a splash of Teroldego and Refosco. If you're curious about how a crunchy red wine with a bit of a chill can check a lot of boxes, this is the wine for you! Delightfully light to medium bodied, loaded with mountain strawberry and herbs, with a firm minerality framing the wealth of fruit and savory tones.

Hand harvested, foot tread and fermented whole cluster. Fermentation with wild yeast from the vineyard and a full secondary fermentation was allowed to slowly complete with native bacteria throughout the winter and into spring.  10 months elevage in neutral puncheon, followed by 6 months in bottle.
