100% Bronner, simply raised in stainless steel, ‘Filari Margherita’ is bright, dynamic, and exuberant – in a word, zesty. Loads of lemon-lime in all forms light up the palate – lemon Jolly Rancher, lime peel, gingery lemongrass, Kaffir lime leaf. White flowers, hay, and light fennel notes define the aromatics, and alluding to a subtle, herbaceous bitterness that counters all those tangy, fruity elements. ‘Zesty’ befits the acidity, too, carrying through to the brisk, bracing finish, all citrus and minerals. Giulia and Alberto decided to work with Bronner explicitly because as a PIWI variety (crosses of American and Asian wild grapevines with European grape varieties), it is resistant to fungal diseases, meaning no pesticides need to be used in the vineyards; this makes it all the more straightforward for them to fulfill their commitment to maintaining the health and history of their soil. As with all their wines, farming is by hand and holistic, cellar intervention is absolutely minimal, no sulfur is added, and production is tiny.
