Umbria

Umbria, often called the "Green Heart of Italy," is a landlocked region in central Italy known, with hill towns like Assisi, Perugia, and Montefalco being major highlights. It's home to Italy's deepest, darkest wine, made from the Sagrantino grape, once produced for the Pope and now brought to worldwide attention by pioneering vignerons like Paolo Bea.  Well-know Orvieto is all about crisp, clean whites, while Grechetto di Todi and Trebbiano Spoletino offer greater richness and complexity.
