An out of the ordinary and thus limited release, 'Area 51' is a 50/50 blend of Vigna Vecchia Sangiovese (which sees just a soft pressing) and Trebbiano (which gets 4 months of on-skin maceration.) We're thinking of it as big nod to the days when Sangio was always blended with white varieties; here, aromas and flavors ping pong from red to white and back in a 'best of' manner: candied strawberry, pulply yellow fruit, blood orange, earthy chamomile, and lots of cherries and dried flowers. With super bright, lip-smakcing acidity, lingering, powdery tannins, and a lightly bitter, terracotta finish, 'Area 51' is not for the faint of heart, but proves the truth - about great Tuscan natural wine - is out there...
