Francis Egly’s flagship bottling is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from Ambonnay, disgorged after four years on the lees – on the long side for a Champagne in its peer group and a prime example of the rich, fuller bodied, and complex Pinot Noir-based bottling his estate is lauded for. He ferments 20% of the wine in barrel, that oak adding boldness to the aroma and body to the structure, while the searing, mineral-tinged acidity cleans up any hint of wood in the finish. A deftly balanced and rich expression of Ambonnay fruit with notable vibrancy and freshness, which makes for an absolutely compelling and enticing NV Champagne.
Red fruit, dried flowers, mint, spice and lemon confit are some of the aromas and flavors that build in this wonderfully open-knit, inviting Champagne.Very classical aromas of toast, nuts and patisserie lead to a palate that's round and savory with very attractive richness and complexity. Flavors of nuts, cream and candied fruits are given lovely balance, elegance, persistence and length by the wonderful acidity. Deliciously good - a serious fizz.
