A 'marsala' of mind-bending proportions, the Vecchio Samperi was the first wine that Marco produced, and pays homage to the oldest known style of marsala wine known as 'stravecchio.' Crafted through an ever evolving solera system by which older vintages are regularly 'topped up' with younger wines, the wine is emphatically not fortified (a technique introduced later as the influence of port, madeira, and sherry made its way to Sicily), this lack of additional alcohol effectively disqualifying the Samperi from carrying the Marsala DOC. Explosive aromas of ripe citrus fruits, peach and hazelnut emerge through a fat, luscious and mouth-filling palate, delivering kaleidoscopic elements of peach, hazelnut, butter and orange peel through an endless finish.
