A 50/50 blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, fruit for Salvo's 'entry level’ rosso grows at soaring altitudes of 700 meters, in sandy, volcanic soils. The wine, in Salvo’s mind, is his most important as it reflects his vision of what traditional wine on Etna was before modern technology arrived. The 2022 is a total pleasure, pure and downright delightful, brighter than recent years, with rosy florals, savory herbs, and crushed raspberry fruit. A wine that is both juicy and driven, reeling with sweet cherry and spices, coupled with Etna’s distinctive smoke and some gentle tobacco notes. A wine with a sense of place…as unencumbered, representative, and as local as it gets!
