This Pignatello and Nero d'Avola blend is beautifully lithe, but don't be fooled — it’s a spiced and lifted but densely packed Sicilian red ripe with conviction, as its expressive blackberry jam notes and mineral-driven finish transport you directly to the place of origin. From vines planted over sandy soils heavily influenced by the Mediterranean, this 50/50 blend of spicy, herbal Pignatello (aka Perricone) and fruit-frenzied Nero d'avola sees 14 days on skins before aging between stainless steel and used chestnut barrels for just a touch of woody structure. Nino’s wines reveal depth and contemplative reflection on the Marsala landscape – here translated as rustic and a little funky, with dark fruit, sea salt, and olives in brine. The palate is gamey and grippy, with chewy iron notes and flavors that bring to mind a juicy, flame-grilled burger (also not a bad painting option!). That being said, it is absolutely not a heavy wine and would be lovely with a little chill.
