The Montefalco Sagrantino ‘Colleallodole,’ the estate’s top cuvee, rolls out a luminous ruby-red, offering up initial layers of bright red cherry, dark plum, and sweet spice with a hint of menthol livening the nose a touch. After 24 months in large botti and another 12 months bottle, the mouth offers richness and luscious weight on entry; the wine bristles almost to the point of austerity in the mouth (at this early stage in it’s life) but showcases a fairly polished profile of sweet balsamic nuance on top of the long ripe dark fruit-driven finish. A knockout Sagrantino, and just entering its prime drinking window.
