'Cinque,' a nod to the five grape varieties planted at Le Boncie, is fermented in a combination of cement and steel, with a slightly briefer maceration than 'Le Trame,' the estate's flagship wine, and ages in large botti for roughly one year less. The result is a slightly less structured and gentler wine, though still deeply expressive of both the warm generosity of Castelnuovo Berardenga, and of Giovanna’s style. 2023’s particularly acute drought conditions led to a Cinque of dark fruit and ample structure, yet through Giovanna’s skilled stewardship the tannins remain fresh and finely articulated even as they penetrate deep into the wine’s dense palate. Fresh and vibrant on the nose with ripe berries, wild cherry, orange peel, fresh roses, wild thyme and earth, with a refreshing line of acidity that pulls it all together. A gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next few years.
