100% Monica from three small parcels owned and farmed by Simone Murru. The vineyards are between 70 and 100 years old, and all are bush-trained. Yields are super low, providing for remarkable concentration. Monica is an ancient local variety, perhaps of Spanish origin, and provides for wines that are silky and rich in aromas fine herbs, mirtle and underbrush.
I Garagisti di Sorgono is a micro-winery from Sardegna that is inspired by the Vins de Garage movement that begain on the Right Bank of Bordeaux in the 1980s. Located smack-dab in the center of Sardegna, in the mountains between Barbagia and Campidano in an area known as Mandrolisai, childhood friends Renzo Manca, Simone Murru, Andrea Macis and Pietro Uras farm vines of Monica, Muristeddu and Cannonau that were planted some 60 to 80 years ago by their grandparents. Make no mistake, these wines are not quiet. Powerfully dense, dark in color and high in alcohol, these are red wines are impossible to ignore.
