From a unique vineyard site in Monforte d’Alba surrounded by unmatched biodiversity and clay and limestone soils, these 25-year-old Nebbiolo vines cascade down from the church of San Sebastiano towards the only natural lake in the Langhe. Whole berry fermentation (not whole cluster, as they wish to avoid excessive power), is followed by 8 to 12 months of barrel aging, which it wears very well. A totally classically structured Monforte, it offers up bright red-toned fruit – ripe raspberries, framboise – white flowers, and wild fresh herbs. Zesty and fresh, it has great ripe fruit and a chalky texture with a more linear feel and a and a clean finish. The elegance and transparency of the fruit profile is dominated by some serious tannin of very high quality so typical of Monforte. An impressive showing.
