An achingly bright, uber fresh and immensely drinkable Nebbiolo, there are plenty of parallels that can be drawn here to the Chiavennasca wines of its latitudinal cousins to the east in Valtellina. Dark forest fruits, wild strawberry, rose water, and an almost lactic strawberry yogurt character dominate a high-toned nose. Sleek, super-juicy, yet redolent of its high-altitude, cool-climate birthplace, flavors of fresh raspberries, sour cherry bitterness, more wild strawberry, and little tart red plums drive a mouthful that is plushed up a touch with hints of cranberry jam and rosehip marmalade.
Earth-driven aromas and savory herbs open the nose of this wine. Dried red cherry, spiced tea and crushed stone create a meditative experience on the palate that deserves to be alongside roasted savory dishes.
