100% Nebbiolo from a small parcel the Bondonio family planted around 50years ago in one of Barbaresco’s most famous crus, Roncagliette. The site is exposed full south and its firm clay-limestone soils lend the Nebbiolo from here power and finesse. This is macerated on the skins for two months before being pressed off to old botti for a couple of years. A wine of intensity and poise, with fresh red rose and blood orange notes above a core of rich, pure red raspberry fruit, tempered by cooler elements of mint, menthol and cinnamon. While Roncagliette's palate definitely leads toward brawny, bristling with the tannic structure of a wine destined for the cellar, it is still richly textured and brimming with wild strawberry, more raspberry, and an alluring, earth-driven element of petrichor. It's bold, but surprisingly vibrant and alluring already and with plenty of complexity –– and pleasure –– to its serious stuffing. A neo-classic with with a long life ahead.
