As is often typical of our favorites Barberas, this is dangerously easy-drinking. Make no mistake, ‘Sori del Drago’ is a pure expression of grape and place, done precisely, but ultimately, it’s all about pleasure. Fruit comes from the family’s famed 'Garblèt’ vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, literally in the middle of some of their prime Barolo vines. Vinification and aging in steel helps preserve freshness, but this is still a pretty rich, heady Barbera. Pretty notes of black cherries and plum entice from the start, alongside higher-toned notes of bright red berries, lavender and white pepper. The 2022 is a juicy, textured wine, medium-bodied with voluptuous, soft, sappy purple plum fruit, and fresh, almost saline acidity. A bottle for those who crave a red with substance without a highly tannic backbone, and an easy wine to love, one to keep by the case, and pull out for effortlessly sophisticated dinners with friends. Only 200 cases are imported to the U.S. annually.
