A wine that could only come from these two, ‘Nemesis’ is all Gewürztraminer that sees 15 days of skin contact before maturing under flor, the natural layer of yeast that forms in less-than-airtight conditions (in this case, less-than-full tonneaux), common in sherry and the wines of Jura. The result is a surprisingly lithe, delicate, peach-tea colored wine, perfumed with lychee, dried persimmon, almond skins, and sage. What really impresses is this wine’s sheer finesse, offset by a bright kick of acidity and just-so creamy finish. Named for the Greek goddess of justice — the one to intervene when you got too arrogant against the gods — this is a wine that just might level you. You thought you knew Gewürztraminer?
