Elena’s passion for Timorasso led them to lease a vineyard in Derthona in the Colli Tortonesi appellation running along the south east edge of the Piedmont region in the south-eastern spur of the province of Alessandria. Here, soils are ripe with Sant’Agata fossil marls containing twenty million year-old compacted calcareous clay, responsible for the beloved savoriness and salty minerality that Timorasso manifests in these parts.Their 2023 is gorgeous: creamy, ample and beautifully layered in the glass, it offers up hints of apricot, chamomile and white flowers, with light tropical accents that develop in the glass. Gentle, non-oxidative extraction with stems lends texture, while blocked malolactic fermentation and aging in small ceramic-cement barrels keeps the flavors bright. Beautifully done.
