Paradiso di Cacuci is an estate winery in Località Paradiso in the Montosoli area northwest of the city of Montalcino in Tuscany. It was originally founded by the Fastelli family in 1965, one of the founding families of the Brunello consorzio. While the Paradiso di Fastelli Mauro estate was sold to its current owner just a few years ago (hence the slight name change), methods remain very traditional: all Brunelli see 36 to 42 months in Slavonian barrel before 2 years of aging in bottles. With just a fraction of production exported to California, we have the rare chance to offer a mini-vertical, including two of the most lauded vintages in recent Montalcino history.
The 2017 Brunello from Paradiso di Cacuci is a wine packed with plenty of gusto and guts, one of the hottest vintages as of late but handled with aplomb. Notes of ripe red plum and black cherry, dried flowers, and leather emanate from the glass and ripple across the palate, backed by fine, tea like tannins and a long finish. *Please note the 2017 will arrive in stock at the end of August*
2016, as a vintage, is a benchmark, Brunello as it truly is (when done right, of course.) Here, red currant and cranberry, violets, balsamic, herbs, and sweet, lingering spice define a juicy, linear palate. Tannins are round and there’s an overall warmth and giving, enticing richness to the 2016. Another 5-star growing season, the 2015 sees earthy aromas of forest floor, dark-skinned berries, and leather leading the nose. The savory, balanced palate offers dried black cherry, raspberry jam, star anise, and black pepper alongside fine-grained tannins as a grippy core of saline-minerals and brisk acids adds tension toward the close.
