Massimiliano Croci refers to his steep, southeast-facing hillside vineyard as a “beach”: the soils are crumbly, sandy clay, full of disintegrating, limestone-rich marine fossils. 'Lubigo' translates as “landslide” and is the name of the Ortrugo parcel for this traditional, Emilian frizzante rifermentato. Maceration lasts 1-2 weeks and such extended skin contact gives this a rich, golden hue, and yeasty tones with loads of lemon oil and apple. The finish is mineral-laden, dry, and complex. Bubbles built for charcuterie fare.
