From a unique vineyard site in Monforte d’Alba surrounded by unmatched biodiversity and clay and limestone soils, these 25-year-old Nebbiolo vines cascade down from the church of San Sebastiano towards the only natural lake in the Langhe. Whole berry fermentation (not whole cluster, as they wish to avoid excessive power), is followed by 8 to 12 months of barrel aging, which it wears very well and which puts this Nebbiolo in another realm compared to other wines in its category. A totally classically structured Monforte wine, it offers up bright red-toned fruit – raspberries, framboise – white flowers, and wild fresh herbs. Zesty and fresh, it has great ripe fruit and a chalky texture with a more linear feel and a clean finish.
