A Friulian native grape par excellence, from 25-year-old vineyards. Violet, black cherry, and plum meet aromatic tobacco, cardamom, licorice, and cocoa on the nose. Explosive on the palate – Denis’ 35-day whole cluster maceration amps up Refosco’s inherent qualities – with layers of concentrated black fruit, rich, savory earth, plenty of prickly acidity, and tannins made supple but very much still holding everything together. Aged in steel for nearly 4 years on fine lees, this is bold, fresh, and very Friuli.
