This is Giovanna’s flagship wine – formerly a 'Chianti Classico' but now proudly badged as 'Toscana Rosso' since she wearied of the red tape and exited the appellation. Comprised almost entirely of Sangiovese, with splashes of interplanted Colorino, Mammolo, Foglia Tonda, and Ciliegiolo. Fermented in open-top oak casks and aged in a combination of well-used large botti and 500-liter barrels, 'Le Trame' expresses punchy minerality and a purity of fruit that makes the 2020 simply fabulous. It's the sort of wine that can be deceptive at first given its mid-weight structure and understated personality, but the intensity of flavors and the wine's persistence reveal themselves quickly. Cedar, pipe tobacco, dried leaves, mint, and blood orange play off a core of red-toned fruit, with all the elements so well put together. Very possibly one of the wines of the vintage.
