From 50-year-old vines, the 2015 Refosco dal Peduncolo (so named for the red color of its stems, which distinguishes it from other Refosco varieties) is intense with a burst of autumnal spices, blood orange and crushed raspberries. After fermentation in stainless steel with ambient yeast and 4-week maceration, it’s aged in a mix of french barriques and Slavonian oak for 14-18 months followed by an additional 50 months of time in bottle. The result is a rich and pliant wine with a core of tart wild berry fruits and zesty acidity that adds a sensation of unbridled energy while remaining elegant. It finishes remarkably fresh and long, with a saturation of fine tannins and a bitter tinge, yet remains incredibly fresh. This has a bright future ahead of it. Drink now thru 2038.
