Despite listing a heady 15% ABV (this was a fairly warm vintage after all), the Mascarello's 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo remains impressively lithe and transparent. A wafting nose of cherries, citrus peel, gently autumnal soil tones, gamebird and bonfire. The palate skews deep and full, with a sappy core of red fruit, more soil-riddled undergrowth, ripe, suave tannins and a long, complex and classy finish. How the Mascarellos managed this I have no idea, but color me impressed. A big win for the vintage!
