To help celebrate the launch of our new Champagne Club (and the start of producer visits season!), we are honored to host Réol Beaufort for an intimate tasting of his family's legendary wines. Champagne André Beaufort is a pioneer of organic and biodynamic winemaking in the Champagne region, split between holdings in Ambonnay (Grand Cru) and Polisy (in the Aube). Founded by Jacques Beaufort, the estate has practiced organic agriculture and eschewed all chemical treatments since 1970; as of 2018, the estate is run by his sons Constant and Réol Beaufort. Beaufort's wines are not the austere, acid-driven monoliths that so many clamored-about bottles seem to be today; rather, they are immediately pleasurable and fantastically fresh expressions of the Aube from one of the only individuals using native yeasts for both their Vin Clair and secondary fermentations. The Beaufort Champagnes are products of superb farming, living soils, extended sur-lie aging, and the commitment of the Beaufort family to create true Champagnes of terroir. To quote our dear importer Keven Clancy: "These are not for everyone ,but they ruin people for other Champagnes."
To accompany such singular wines, we'll have bites provided by longtime friend and collaborator Emily Lai of Masak Masak. Bienvenue à Bistro Biondi!
