A wine of rarely seen balance and substance, with pristine and slightly honeyed white peach and Granny Smith apple driving the fruit profile, pocked by highlights of fennel pollen, white florals, and that textbook salinity that only seems to become more and more persistent. With a bit of time open, gardenia and rose waft from the glass as even richer tones emerge: tea-like jasmine, a caramelized, almost candied apple finish, even a bit of salt water taffy! While far from fussy, this is a bottle that will surprise you over multiple hours. Blended from two parcels but aged separately, Luca’s younger vine are picked early and are given a direct press straight to stainless steel vats, while older vines, which come from more compact soils, are picked a little later, and see about 10 days of skin contact before being pressed off to old oak. A wonderful ‘winter white’ in that it has texture to spare and can certainly be cozied up with – especially when paired alongside a classic roast chicken – this also provides a welcome nod to sunnier days. Serve chilled but not too cold!
