Sourced from all of the estate's red grapes that are not directed towards their Barbera Superiore bottling, Oltretorrente’s Colli Tortonesi Rosso is pulled from a patchwork of parcels throughout the property, with vine age ranging from 20 to 60 years old. The blend here basically comprises of 90% Barbera and 10% Dolcetto, but co-planted throughout the vineyards there small amounts of Croatina, Freisa, Slarina, Brachetto, and Aleatico, which all make their way into this wine. The resulting wine, which sees around 6-8 months resting in concrete tanks, strikes a beeline for the tighter and fresh elements these varieties can offer: sweet/tart cherries, fresh cassis, crushed red and purples flowers. And while the nose speaks predominantly of fruit and flower, the palate skews wonderfully savory, incorporating fresh tilled soil and a meaty, almost salumi-like spice that leaves you with the impression of dynamite Lambrusco, minus the bubbles.
