In addition to wine, family-run Montemelino, on the northern cusp of Umbria overlooking Lake Trasimeno, has always produced high quality olive oil. Native species are cultivated using traditional methods, and the cool, hillside microclimate of the olive groves keeps plants healthy with minimal intervention. A combination of the traditional central Italian cultivars (Frantoio, Moraiolo, Leccino), as well as the local Dolce Agogia , native to this tiny regional sub-zone and literally “sweet drop," this balances herbaceous notes of artichoke and green tomato with fruity flavors and fuller body. Our favorite from Umbria!
