A Pinot worthy of any serious cellar, the Giorgio Odero Pinot Nero, is one of Frecciarossa’s most sought after wines. Grown in the foothills of Casteggio, in a single vineyard adjacent to the estate, select grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and then gently crushed. Indigenous yeast fermentation takes place in an upright, untoasted French oak vat and is followed by a 10-day maceration. It then sees 12 months in large old oak barrels, 6 months in stainless-steel vats and an additional 12 months in bottle before release. With an even more intense ruby red color than the Carillo, the Giorgio has intoxicating fruit of the forest aromatics, a singular balsamic overtone reminiscent of pine and sage, and a closing note of Seville orange. On the palate, it is fruity, fresh, fragrant and well-balanced, with an acidity that promises depth and great potential for aging. Perhaps your Chambolle-Musigny needs a little friend in the cellar?
